Magnetic Field Strength vs. Temperature
Pairs of neodymium magnets were placed in two tubes. The pair of magnets in each tube were placed so they were repelling each other. The distance between each pair of magnets indicates the strength of the magnetic field. The purpose of the experiment was to determine how the temperature effects the strength of the magnetic field. Will the magnets get stronger when the temperature decreases during the flight?
Magnets at Launch
Magnets near Sand Mine
The camera recording this experiment turned off after about 8 minutes. During the 8 minutes, the distance between the magnets did not appear to change. The temperature at the time the camera stopped was 15 degrees F colder that the launch site temperature. The battery was fully charged and it was connected to a back-up battery supply. We have no idea what caused this to happen. We will try this experiment again next year.
